Diwylliant a'r berthynas newydd â'r UE | Culture and the new relationship with the EU

Ymateb gan: Ffilmiau Wicked Cymru | Evidence from: Wicked Wales film

The Committee is considering the impact of the UK’s exit from the EU on the culture sector and would like to understand your views on the following:

1. The impact of the new relationship on artists and creative workers touring and working cross-border (including touring and working in Wales).

2. The impact of new trading arrangements relating to cultural activity.

3. The availability of guidance and support for the sector relating to the new relationship between the UK and EU

4. The impact on access to funding programmes and networks.

Wicked Wales Film WWF has been an active member of an international youth film festival network Youth Cinema Network YCN for over 10 years. In that time WWF has taken part in a number of international cultural programmes around film. Flying the flag for Wales in taking films and young volunteers from Wales to Countries such as Serbia, Estonia, Spain, Greece, Germany, Poland and Ireland. In that time we have also facilitated over 100 international festival directors coming to Wales for the first time. Since Brexit and being ‘Outside Europe’ our involvement is no longer seen as strengthening funding applications and we have not been involved or invited to join any new YCN projects since Brexit. We have also experienced longer delays and refused visas to visits to our festival which has not happened before.

We have been successful this year working with the British Council on their UK/Poland Season 2025, developing a new partner in Gdansk, the Baltic Cultural Centre. This project will be led by Poland taking digital Art from Wales to be displayed in Poland as part of the celebrations. This is a welcome development.

5. Any changes to the UK-EU relationship that might improve cross-border working for the culture sector
